May 10, 2017 – A Vision for the Future

Come be inspired by the possibilities of life after high school. Two young adults will share their current schedule out in the community, including employment, volunteering, independent living, recreation/leisure activities, and post-secondary education.

Learn about the CCISD ACES community transition program that helped our speakers create their life after high school.

Want to do more to influence education law but don’t know how? Unsure of how to get the attention of your state and national legislators? Curious about what issues will be addressed at the upcoming 2017 legislative session in Austin?

Join SEPTA for a short business meeting followed by a presentation on how we together can have an impact on the lawmaking that affects our students. The key education issues the legislature will look at in the upcoming session which begins in January will also be covered.

September 28 – Get to Know Special Education Services & PTA Meeting

Space Center Intermediate, 7:00 – 8:30pm

Parents, educators and community members gathered at Space Center Intermediate  to meet the staff of CCISD’s Special Services Department and learn about the special services CCISD provides. Executive Director Dr. Cynthia Short shared facts about special education in CCISD, addressed some of the special education issues that have been in the news, and answered many questions from the audience. Dinner was provided compliments of Subway.

May 19, 2016 – Inclusion Confusion: Common Definitions, Continuing Questions and Emerging Trends in 2016

Are you experiencing Inclusion Confusion?   There are so many different definitions and practices associated with inclusive education that it is easy to become confused!  This session featured Dr. Frances Stetson, President of Stetson and Associates and sponsor of the Inclusive Schools Network website.  Dr. Stetson provided the audience with a clear definition of inclusion, what it is and what it isn’t, and a decision making process that considers individual student needs.  She also facilitated a group brainstorm about the areas of confusion about inclusion and provided a conclusion about emerging trends and recent successes in inclusive schools.
